Your Allbirds are built to travel

Cleaning your Allbirds
- Remove the insoles and laces, and brush off excess dirt with a towel or soft brush.
- Throw the shoes in the washing machine on wool/delicates cycle (cold water). We recommend using a linen bag and washing the insoles by hand for best results.
- Do NOT tumble dry – air dry your Allbirds like the good ol’ days.
- Good as new! Reinsert the insole and laces and get on with your day.
Replace your insoles
Feet stink. It’s a fact of life, and usually absorbent insoles are the main culprit of a smelly shoe. We want you to wear your Allbirds for a long, long time, so we offer premium replacement insoles -- high cushion, lined with our merino fabric -- at a fraction of other replacement insoles on the market. These insoles are designed for plush comfort, made with vegetable oil to put the spring back in your step.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer half sizes?
Our shoes come in whole sizes only. That being said, Allbirds are made of a super soft merino upper that makes them feel equal parts snug and stretchy. If you typically wear a half size, we suggest that you size up in the Wool Runner and size down in the Wool Lounger.
I have a wide foot; will Allbirds fit well?
Our shoes are all D (medium) width. Even if your feet tend to run wider, you might be shocked at how well our merino textile stretches to your foot. We have numerous wide-footed customers who are quite happy (including our co-founder Tim). If you wear a half size, try the size up for some extra wiggle room!
Can I remove an Allbirds insole?
Sure can. If your feet have special requirements, replace our insoles with your orthotics and give the gift of our super soft merino insoles to a friend. If you wear a half size, we suggest that you size up.
I love your insoles! Where can I get replacements?

Aren't wool shoes hot?
Just like the wool on a merino sheep, our shoes keep you warm in the cold, and cool in the heat. This thermoregulation is a natural property of merino. For an extra layer of warmth on cooler days, try wearing thin socks.
What about when they get wet?
Merino wool can absorb up to 35% of its weight in water, which is how it wicks sweat away from your foot so effectively. When wet, superfine merino still regulates temperature, so your shoes won’t feel sloshy and won’t leave you smelling like a wet dog...or sheep! If you happen to be a weather reporter considering wearing Allbirds while covering the next hurricane, we humbly suggest using rain boots.
Why hasn’t merino been used in shoes before?
Merino wool is so fine -- ours is less than 17 micron (that’s about 20% of the average diameter of human hair) -- that it has historically been difficult to make a fabric strong enough for shoes. But we found a way.
Do your shoes only come in two styles?

What is in your outsole and why is it so cushy?
Our proprietary blend of EVA low-density foam is mixed with rubber to make a light, but highly durable outsole. Our injection molding process also helps reduce waste. We love finding new ways to make products that are better for you and the world. Plus, better outsole friction means no slipping, just floatin’.
What’s up with the box?
Because we sell directly to you via our website, we designed a patent pending box that is a shipping box and shoebox all in one. It uses about 40% less material, is made of 95% recycled cardboard, and is 100% recyclable – plus, we think it’s pretty good looking.
Do you offer kids sizes?
Not yet, but they would look really cute, so we probably will soon.
Will you ever have more sizes?
We have just expanded the sizes offered in our Classic colors to include women’s 5 and men’s 14! Though we know not all of you can find your soles’ companion in these sizes, our shoes all have a unisex fit! The perfect size for you may be right under your nose.
For women: If you are wear a size larger than a women’s 10, consider trying out our men’s sizes (who knows, maybe you’ll even find a color combo you like more). Our women’s sizes run about 1.5 sizes shorter than our men’s size. For example, if you’re a women’s 11.5, the men’s 10 should be a perfect fit.
For men: If you typically wear a men’s 7, you might try the women’s 9.

How many sheep does it take to make a Wool Runner?
One sheep’s painlessly shorn coat produces enough wool to make about 20 pairs of shoes. We get sustainable, soft, and natural material, and they get a haircut!
What if I’m allergic to wool?
Turns out that most people aren’t actually allergic to wool! The coarse fibers on that wool sweater you bought in 1998 will often irritate your skin, creating the sensation of an atopic allergy. Our proprietary superfine merino is made from fibers that are about 20% of the diameter of the average human hair, and are incredibly soft. Can’t know for sure, but we’d venture to guess that they won’t irritate your skin. In the off chance that they do, send them back within 30 days for a full refund, no questions asked.
The pair I want is sold out!
Because we are exclusively a direct to consumer brand, planning gets tricky sometimes. Sign up for our sparingly sent email updates (bottom of page) and we'll let you know when we release new colors.
Our Limited Edition colors are refreshed seasonally, so once sold out they are gone for good. We'll always have our Classic colors, so even if your size is unavailable you can place an order on backorder!
I don't see the color I had my eye on. Where is it?
If the color you've been eyeing isn't available for purchase, this color is sold out indefinitely. All colors that are available for purchase are listed on our product pages. We're constantly working to release new colors that reflect the season, so hopefully we'll have a new color you love soon!
When will you release new colors?
We refresh our Limited Edition colors multiple times per year. Be sure to sign up for our mailing list to be notified of new released as soon as they come out!
Can I buy additional laces?
We are introducing this option soon!
How do I wash my Allbirds?
If your shoes do accompany you on a wild adventure and start to feel a little less than fresh, throw them in the washing machine on the wool or gentle cycle. Be sure to remove the insoles and laces. You can use gentle, citrus-based detergent for the best results.
Air dry like in the good ol' days, and whatever you do, no dryer!
What is the status of my order?
You will receive a shipment notification email once your order is en route to you! If you are having trouble tracking your order, call our team at 888-963-8944 or email email@example.com.
As we only ship during business days, orders placed on Friday after 12:30pm Eastern time or over the weekend will ship out on Monday morning. All orders placed with complimentary shipping take 5-7 business days to arrive. For faster shipping, you may purchase FedEx Two Day or Next Day shipping.
What if I want to change or cancel my order?
We don’t yet have an online system to support changes and we try to fulfill orders very quickly; that said, please give us a call at 1-888-963-8944 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 6pm PST) and we’ll find a good solution. If you’re just getting cold feet, hold on a minute -- we think you’ll love them and if you don’t, you can always send them back for free within 30 days of purchase.
Where else can I buy Allbirds?
Nowhere! We are completely direct-to-consumer. We do, however, have one store in downtown San Francisco. If you’re in the Bay Area, come say hi and grab a pair - we’re on Hotaling Place in Jackson Square!

How do I send a gift card?
We send the electronic gift card to your email, and you forward the email along to the lucky person whenever you’re ready.
How do I use my Allbirds Gift Card?
It’s simple -- just copy and paste the code from the email you received into the Gift Card box at checkout.
Can I buy a physical gift card?
We don’t currently offer physical gift cards, but you can always print out the gift card email and deliver it that way.
Will the gift card ever expire?
Never! The code only expires once the full amount of the gift card has been used.
Do I need an account to buy a gift card?
No, you can buy a gift card as a guest. But even if you check out as a guest, you might enjoy signing up for our sparingly sent emails, so you can be the first to know about things like our latest colors and other Allbirds news.
Are gift cards transferrable?
Yes, all you need is the gift card code.
Can I return a gift card?
Our gift cards are non-refundable. If for some reason you don’t love your new Allbirds after 30 days, we’ll gladly take them back and give you a full refund on the gift card - no questions asked.
Can I order gift cards in denominations other than $95 or $190?
Right now we only offer gift cards for one or two pairs of Allbirds, but if you’d like to see more options in the future, let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Does the gift card amount include shipping costs and applicable taxes for each pair?
We always cover free ground shipping with each order of Allbirds. Since state taxes vary, we can't offer gift card amounts that cover taxes as well.
How can I check my gift card balance?
The gift card page that displays your code will always show your current gift card balance. You can access the gift card page by clicking on the "View Your Gift Card" button within the email. You can also call us at 1-888-963-8944 or email email@example.com with your unique gift card code and we can look up the balance for you.
How much is shipping?
We offer free shipping, returns, and exchanges in the US and New Zealand.
Where do you ship?
We currently ship to the US and New Zealand. For New Zealand orders, please place your order on allbirds.co.nz.
We are hoping to expand to other regions and countries in the future! In the meantime, perhaps this is the perfect excuse for a stateside visit or a Kiwi vacation.
Can I expedite my order?
No problem. Select priority shipping in your checkout cart; you’ll have to cover the difference in shipping cost, but we are sure it will be worth it.
How do you ship?
Orders placed with complimentary shipping to addresses east of the Mississippi (roughly) are shipped via FedEx SmartPost. In this method, FedEx takes the first leg of the journey and USPS ultimately delivers your package to your door.
Orders placed with standard shipping to addresses west of the Mississippi are shipped via FedEx Ground. In this method FedEx has possession of the package from our warehouse to your door. Any address that the USPS ships to will work for us! All expedited orders are shipped with FedEx.
What is your return policy?
We offer a 30-day trial period; you can return your shoes or insoles with no questions asked, even if you have worn them out in the wild.
How do I make a return?
Simply click on the Returns/Exchanges button on the main menu of the Help page. Make sure you have your order # and billing zip, as you'll need those to initiate your exchange or return. If you don’t know your order number, customers can usually locate it by searching for “Confirmation For Order” in their inbox.
How do I make a gift exchange?
Let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org. The more information you provide about the gift giver, the better! Once we know the order number and customer information from the original order we can request that a pre-paid return label be sent your way.
Please provide the size and color of the new pair you would like for the exchange. Let us know the best shipping address and we can send the new pair to you directly!
What do you do with used shoes that are returned?
We never resell shoes that have been scuffed or worn outside, no matter how lightly. We have partnered with Soles4Souls, and we donate used shoes to them for distribution to people in need.
How are your sheep treated?
We buy only the finest merino wool from New Zealand (our founder, Tim’s, homeland). All our wool is ZQ Merino certified, which ensures that our merino comes from the most humanely treated sheep in the world. Unlike most sheep farms in Australia and China, our farmers are prohibited from using the harmful practice of mulesing.

Where are Allbirds products made?
Our proprietary merino fabric is crafted in one of the world’s finest textile mills outside of Milan, Italy. It is an incredible factory that produces textiles of unrivaled quality, and the only wool mill in Europe certified by the European Commission for environmental sustainability.
Our shoes are then hand assembled in South Korea. We hold all of our suppliers to the highest standards for environmental and labor practices, and are proud of how factory workers are treated, and the responsible approach we take to manufacturing with minimal environmental impact.
What is your commitment to sustainability?
Our goal is to do better things in a better way. To us, this means making products that reflect and respect nature.
Our materials: All of our materials have been meticulously designed to be the most environmentally sustainable they can be. This is evident in our ZQ Certified Merino Wool and our outsole blend. We have some exciting products and novel natural materials in our design pipeline, so stay tuned!

Soles4Souls: When a customer returns a pair of lightly worn Allbirds that we can’t resell, we donate it to our partner organization Soles4Souls.
What’s with the name?
New Zealand is an island a bit smaller than California, and about 1,300 miles from the east coast of Australia. It’s pretty far away. In fact, we called the company Allbirds because it's so far, that when man first arrived, there were all birds, no mammals. The “Allbirds” name is our nod to a need to adopt a more sensitive approach to the way we live.
How do you think about designing shoes?
The shoe industry prioritizes profit over principles (and comfort). We let form follow function, removing unnecessary stitches, colorful branding, and unwanted shoe-tech. We strive to make beautiful shoes using considered design -- meaning, every raw material is thoughtfully chosen for its unique properties, sustainability, and its end of life.
